Photo Restoration, 33mm Slide
Scanning, Negative Scanning and
Digital Photograph Manipulation FAQ's and Advice Tips.
Q: Will you remove any dust or
scratches from my slides or 35mm negatives after scanning?
A: Yes as standard, with no extra
charge to you. The award-winning DIGITAL ICE Technology we use automatically
removes surface defects such as dust and scratches from a scanned 35mm slide or
negative image. DIGITAL ICE Technology differentiates itself from software only
solutions because it does not soften, blur or otherwise alter any underlying
details or composition of the original image. Instead, the patented DIGITAL ICE
Technology works from within the scanner during the scanning process to provide
the user with a clear, authentic base image that improves the original image.
Q: How do I go
about getting a new image from my old photograph?
A: If you have
an old photograph that is physically intact, we will scan it at a very high
resolution and by using advanced industry standard software restore the image to
how it would have looked when originally photographed. This may mean removing any dust or
scratches and gently enhancing any colours or tones to adjust for age fading.
Q: Something is
missing or out of focus, what can you do for me?
A: Images can
be gently sharpened to a certain level, but we cannot restore what is not there.
We can clone areas of background, if for example there is a small tear or stain
on an image. But if an image is very out of focus there is nothing that can be
done, the original photo does not contain the details and scanning will not
create missing details either.
Q: I have a
photo borrowed from a friend can you scan it?
A: It depends, we
adhere strictly to the copyright laws, we can scan professional photographs but
you must supply written confirmation from the copyright owner, normally the
photographer automatically holds the copyright but not always. Please check with
the copyright owner before asking us to scan any images not taken by yourself.
Q: The colours on
my scanned images look different between my work PC and home PC, why is this?
A: Everyone
sees colours differently, we use calibrated monitors, printers and scanners to
help us achieve a corrected industry standard colour profile. If you are using an old or
un-calibrated monitor at work it may be producing colours that are different to what
you
see at home. You will often notice a difference between laptop screens and
modern LCD desktop screens also.
Q: Will I get my
original photographs or 35mm slides and 35mm negatives back?
A: Yes of
course, we offer a mail order service, but would suggest that very valuable
photographs are hand delivered or at the very least sent via Royal Mail Recorded
and Insured delivery. If you are local to Fleet or Farnborough in Hampshire we
offer a by hand collection and delivery service, providing any order is in excess
of £20
Q: I took a
photograph of a lovely sunset over the coastline, but the horizon is not
straight, help!
A:
This is a very
common problem and even the pros get it wrong sometimes. Fixing it is very
simple and something we do all the time. In order to correct a horizon that is
not straight some cropping of the image is needed. We will keep this to the very
minimum needed to straighten your photograph. We will then enlarge your image
back to it's original size and you should hardly notice any cropping that took
place.
Q:
I've seen a photograph that was all in Black and White, except for some flowers
that were in vivid colour, can you do this with one of my photographs (example
1
example 2)?
A: Yes we can.
Send us a good quality photograph and your instructions as to what you want in
colour and black and white and we will do the rest. As this is a time consuming
process we will charge a flat fee of £20 to produce an image like this on a CD
for you. The file will be suitable for high quality printing.
Q:
Why can I not do all of this at home, I have a modern PC and photo/image
software?
A: When we
scan your image we will be dealing with 16-bit TIFF files at about 100 MB each in
size, we use the very latest Adobe CS3 software and high quality scanners. Most
people will not be able to deal with files of this size or format. Leave the
hard work to us and enjoy the results for years to come. |
